Illuminating the senses when lighting Scanlan Theodore Capitol
Scanlan Theodore Capitol, South Yarra
Going ultra small and ultra warm to create a sanctuary of sophistication.
The category-trailblazer andro and Style Wars projector are luminaire highlights.
Scanlan Theodore Capitol with Studio McQualter is a warm and intimate environment offering gentle layers of light. The lighting design champions clothing in its natural habitat, taking cues from showcasing fashion on the runway. Where garments best do their thing.
It was critical to best represent the materials in the garments. After all they are the stars of the show. For this we called on the andro luminaires in ultra-small and ultra-warm plus the high CRI HD Style Wars projector (customised with photography lenses). This offered precise framing, vividness and a dramatic touch of theatre.
When strategising the illumination, we treated each area as its own project in isolation, with different ideas, however they had to also feel harmonious, complementary and work together.

2700k can be rare for retail, but the rewards are obvious in helping to harness the warm and intimate environment. So we customised fixtures and less to fit that brief.
The details didn’t just end at the illumination output. Throughout the space, mounting details were concealed and discreet, a highly nuanced process but one that was possible from working hand-in-hand with contractors on installation.
The lighting design for the iconic Australian fashion label Scanlan Theodore was a case study in harnessing the mood-altering glow of warm illumination to enhance the luxurious feel of a space and the product on display.
