Using illumination
to entice and champion
The space features ideas at the crossroads of lighting design, interior design, retail design and visual merchandising.
Now, of course the intent of the lighting design was to bring out the absolutely delicious earthy finishes from ACRD, but there was also another player here that was begging for attention. Take a guess? Yep, the product. We created contrast between product and circulation space. This light play alludes to a dramatic theatrical feel, working to not only give the product punch but welcome clientele into the space. To quote a song from an obscure 1994 hip hop release from New York “Even when I illuminate nothing it’s beautiful use of negative space” (well, that is how I remember it anyway).

More illumination highlights include the innovative adaptability of bespoke shelving with integral lighting (which you can read more about here). LED was also integrated in display areas to reduce shadowing, illuminate the product and also provide backlighting.
There are more locations to come that pay tribute to R.M. Williams’ legacy of Australian craftsmanship that we look forward to sharing with you.
