THE RIGHT ATTITUDE? IT’S ABOUT THE RIGHT ALTITUDE!

“Have you ever heard of a bird that is scared of heights?”
A question that popped up while we were planning this project for Urban Attitude, a gift store that itself is sure to match any curiosity.
Urban Attitude’s stores are full of innovative items including quirky kitchen supplies, books, designer homeware and basically really fun stuff. Our directive was to reflect this approach to their products in our lighting design. But to be different, playful and fun, yet practical in lighting stock, can sometimes present challenges.
The focus on this job in creating the right mood was on the height and distance of the lighting. By playing with these important ingredients in the lighting design mix, we aimed to create the right atmosphere and do true justice to the vision.
We planned elevated lighting through a track system with track spots at different beam spreads (10, 24 and 45-degree) to give the stock a good illumination, but also to create an interesting mood. Our products used included the Panel Jnr metal halide tracklight.
And what about the birds? Yes, in fact there are actually parrots that are scared of heights. Letting us know that even in the animal kingdom they too can do things a little bit differently.
