WHAT EFFECT CAN PINA COLADAS HAVE ON YOUR RETAIL DESIGN?

When it comes to retail design how do you get your product finishes looking paramount?
How can light contribute to the decision making process at point-of-sale?
And what the hell does a Pina Colada have to do with LED?!
These are some of the things covered in our second issue of our ‘Say Watt’ zine on retail lighting. It features drawings from one of our favourite illustrators Andy Murphy (@salvadorgnarly).
We’ve produced this series to work as an introduction to lighting, and also to help everyone from interior designers to builders familiarise themselves with how they can get the most of their spaces with lighting when approaching retail design.
For example, in fitting rooms, the correct choice and positioning of lighting will enhance skin tones and reduce shadows, making the customer feel and look healthy.
Another consideration is point-of-sale. It’s here that the customer is having second thoughts about buying the new ‘5-Second Abdominal Annihilator Turbo XL Deluxe Edition’ they’re holding.
Natural customer indecision means considered lighting strategies must be made around POS, the lighting and mood should be treated as if it’s a product display. Other topics in this issue include colour temperature, glare, display, joinery and shopfront.
So, if you’d like any helpful hints, insights into retail lighting or just want to flick through some of Andy’s Murphy’s excellent illustrations, get in touch.
