Lights, Camera, Reaction!

MECCA Maxima’s unique store environments are the ultimate beauty playground.

This is taken to new heights with the ‘Selfie Studio’, which gives shoppers a fun way to go social with their in-store experience.

We were lucky enough to design the illumination for the booth at Mecca Maxima Chadstone. This was exciting for us as it’s a great example of fun meets innovation – a hallmark of our ethos of ‘making light work’.

We’ve had a bit of experience with selfies – and not just taking them for ourselves. Previously, we have developed innovations where customers can adjust light levels at stations once they’ve applied make up to sample how they’d looked under their smartphone, the nightclub lights, or normal sunlight.

Consulting with Sarah Russo (Store Development and Design at Mecca Brands), producing the lighting for the booth was quite a sophisticated process. There was the booth itself and then the actual ring that borders the camera. This demanded the perfect distribution of light to highlight skin tones and provide softer contours on the face.

Crucial tasks included testing the camera and lighting at different colour temperatures to gauge its effect on skin tones. Finding the right LED product to mould into the circular shape was the key. Once this was done, we then created an intricately-designed mounting system to produce an even optimum CRI and laboratory tested lumen level.

The Selfie Studio is a great example of melting together various productive and sensory disciplines to take the shopper’s experience to the next level.
