Bright Young Things
Eltham College Melbourne
A RATHER COOL SCHOOL.
For this project, an under-utilised portion of the school wing was repurposed to help foster design thinking and a creative community.
Levitas Fixed Surface Mounted
Because of existing restrictions and access to natural light, innovative lighting strategies were required to provide the right lighting for study.
Abaco disks were used to increase overall illumination, and the space throughout features a mixture of custom and contemporary fixtures. These include the Panorama (from the Australian-made Symphony range) in custom shroud, considered choice cuts from the Andro family and Levitas (yep, it got its name from levitation – see if you can guess which one it is).
The interior has certainly changed, since a member of the ambience team spent a bit of time in the principal’s office there in their youth.

“Due to the limited natural light, communal activities were pushed closer to the glazing line and intimate areas to the darker side of the floor plate.”
