Chromesthesia: Exploring Sound As Colour For Symphony Lighting

Symphony Lighting Melbourne, 2022

Exploring sound as colour in music-inspired colour scapes for symphony lighting

We teamed with photographer Ben Glezer to create a colourful lighting series exploring ‘Chromesthesia’.

No paint or coloured sets were used – colour was only achieved through the use of specific light combinations, set to an intersection of varying RGB and white light settings using Symphony Lighting luminaires with Casambi technology.”

Chromesthesia is the ability to see sound as colour. In a play on the relationship between colour, light and human responses, the series focused on the senses of sight and sound. Applying a mixture of music objects, including sheet music, cassette tapes and guitar pedals, the team used Casambi programmed luminaires from the Symphony Lighting range set to an intersection of varying RGB and white light settings to create the colour scapes.

Symphony is an architectural lighting range designed and manufactured by ambience, that features linear, pendants and bendable neon.
