WOODSTOCK TWO’S SMOKING BARRELS – CUSTOM LIGHTING

We had the pleasure of working on ‘Pizzicheria’ with the guys at Mad Interiors.

Pizzicheria is the new restaurant from one of Melbourne’s Wood Fire pizza pioneers and a favourite – Woodstock (the pizza shop, not the music festival).

For this job, we used wine barrels as part of our concept. This required us to source them from a coastal winery on the Bellarine, which meant two things:

  1. We could get authentic barrels.
  2. We had a pretty decent excuse to sit around and drink great wine.

The custom lighting also features an originally-designed and fabricated feature candelabra. So, be sure to go along to Pizzicheria 63 Lygon St Brunswick East and check it out!

…but perhaps, just as (if not more) importantly, check out some of their delicious pizzas.

And while you’re munching on a pizza, why not have a read of some of the technical aspects of the job by our Luminaire designer Liam:

the barrels

The wine barrels were stripped of their purple-died wine sediment, and enhanced with a warm stain. Six 90mm carbon filament globes follow the barrel profile to produce the ambient light for the tables below. Four wine barrels are suspended from the ceiling and fill the nook space within the restaurant to provide an exclusive corner.

the candelabra

It’s formed with 50mm marine-grade hardwood plywood. The pendant is suspended from above another feature area of the restaurant. The pendant is CNC-cut with detailed joints to make the large span using a single sheet of plywood. The plywood is stained and clear-coated, giving it a rich timber appearance. The 12-volt cabling for the LEDs are recessed in detailed router profiles within the top surface of the solid timber form. This allows complete hidden cabling for the pendant whilst maintaining a solid wooden form.
